| Dries van Noten silk top, available at mytheresa. |
My first entry into fall 2011 sewing to share with you...
Inspiration: This Dries van Noten silk top that combines two prints with great success. Silk prints abound in NYC's Garment District, and I was able to find two compatible charmeuse prints, very reasonably priced, at Chic Fabrics on W. 39th Street.
Pattern used: Simplicity 2192, a Cynthia Rowley pullover top that's a perfect match for the DVN designer original. This pattern runs big, which I found when I made a quick muslin. I cut a size smaller and I nipped in the side seams and the sleeve seams, to make it less boxy.

In fact, I liked this top so much I immediately made another version of it, this time in leather and wool jersey. Yeah, I tried sewing with leather for the first time and it was surprisingly easy. I'll share more about that next week. Happy sewing until then!

I like your fabric choices. Your shirt looks great! Proper designer great! Mixing patterns is high risk, but when it works out, it's awesome.
Ooh, gorgeous top! Great combination of silk prints. Lucky you to have so much variety. I'm loving all the new fall garments so keep them coming!
It's really great Meg. I love your combinations. Is Chic open on Satuday?
I really like how this turned out. I had been looking for a similar pattern and picked this one up over the weekend. I was thinking of a solid color, but I really like your mix of prints. Your review was very helpful. Thank you!
Being a lover of print combinations, I think this is just wondeful. Bet it looks great on. Thanks for the pattern comments.
Nancy, Chic Fabrics is open on Saturdays and Sundays. A rarity in the Garment District! It's become my first choice for when I want quality fabrics but don't want to pay Mood or B&J prices.
nice! i love the prints. :)
You did a great job of selecting fabrics, amazing results!
This is lovely! I can't wait to see the wool jersey/leather version!

I like your fabric selection even more than the inspiration! Would also love to see how the blouse looks on.

This is really lovely! I wear my silk blouses all the time and I know you're going to get so much use out of this! I love the combining of the silk, very nice.
I can't wait to see your leather version, too!
I agree with all the other posters - your top is chic and hip!
I love your version. I sewed Simplicity 2192, too. In homage to you, because you wrote you grew up in PV, I posed in my top with PV in the background.

I also sewed a DVN-inspired top, also pictured in the post.
Dries Van Noten is everywhere all of a sudden this season! Perfect mix of fabrics, it must feel luxurious to wear, now I am wondering if any of my silk remnants that I can't bear to throw away could work for something like this.
Beautiful top. Your fabric combination is adorable!
I approve! Love the sleeve fabric. This could be an inspired way of using up some of my knit 'mini remnants'.
Great interpretation!
Love this! So sophisticated. Are you going to share how you styled it? I'd love to see it modeled!
Love the top! Can't wait to see the leather/wool combo.
Nice.., Love the mixture of fabrics. This pattern is on my list too.
I really like this top. You found two great prints to combine. I hadn't seen the original designer's version before now. I like how you translated the original look into your own. Great colors on yours too.
Wow - this is really beautiful!
