Hey, I Have Some Friends I Want You To Meet

Because I did absolutely no fashion sewing this past long weekend and have nothing to show you here, today's post is about three dear sewing friends I met at the Sit 'n' Sew with Susan Khalje and Kenneth King in August. You'll definitely want to add them to your blogroll if you haven't already. Here they are, in no particular order…

Laura of Capital Sew and Sew: Laura is doing her sewing thing in Washington, D.C., where she always seems to be hobnobbing with the fashion glitterati—like Isabel and Ruben Toledo, for example. She also founded DC Threads, a monthly sewing lounge whose purpose is to "help keep the art of sewing and stitch crafts alive and well in the District of Columbia." I am super-jealous of Laura's tall, slim figure—she looks like she could be a designer's fit model!

Joanne of Miss Muslin: Joanne, who originally hails from Australia but moved to Minneapolis after marrying her American husband, whips up stunning pieces like the vintage faux fur cape stole she recently made. She has an eye for choosing the most exquisite fabrics and unusual patterns. But what's really great about Joanne is her wonderful, self-deprecating sense of humor—this girl makes me laugh!

Kristine of Just Keep Sewing: Kristine is a whirlwind of sewing energy from Michigan, where she teaches high school math and has students who like her so much they ask her to make their prom dresses. Having recently completed her first Chanel-style jacket, Kristine is really pushing herself to learn new techniques and to work with a range of fabrics. She and I chatted via phone this weekend about getting the idea of a sewing summer camp off the ground—stay tuned!

What about you, dear readers?
Do you have sewing friends (they don't have to be ones you've met in real life) bookmarked or on your blogroll whom you think deserve a wider readership? Spread the word by leaving their URLs in the comments section.

I'm heavy into home dec sewing these days as I work on my living room redo. I can't guarantee I'll be posting again this week…but then again, I always seem to find something to blather about.

Thanks Lindsay. I am always looking for new sewing friends.
Everyone who has chimed in about the sit and sew had the best experience. Maybe I can do one next year.

Yay, three more fashion sewing blogs to follow!

Hey, didn't we talk about this on the phone awhile ago too?
I'd have the venue, and it fits most of the criteria you list. Not too far, via expressway, from where Kristine is, and in the summers they run flights to NYC too. It would be so much fun!

You might have her already, but I have to recommend the Selfish Seamstress. She's my new 'must read' selfishseamstress.wordpress.com

Johanna Lu over at The Last Stitch: thelaststitch.blogspot.com. If everyone's already reading her blog, they surely aren't commenting enough! Her posts have great photos and nice blend of sewing, patternmaking, style, and fashion. And she blogs pretty frequently... There are so many good sewing blogs!

@Antoinette - ITA re Johanna at the thelaststitch.blogspot.com. Nice short posts that are to the point with a very clean design to her blog. Love her Etsy shop too! And I would add your very own blog at clevergirl.org. Your blog is a great resource for re-fashioning, and how to use materials in a green way. You're my insight into the younger generation!

I've been following your friends since you did that course in New York - and thanks for the link regarding those Sewing Nerd decals - too good!

Great conversation going on here. I love checking out the blogs on everyone's blogroll. I had never heard of the Selfish Seamstress before today. Almost had soda come out of my nose when I read her last few posts. Hysterical that she just puts it out there like that! I also want to give props to Cidell at Miss Celie's Pants. LOVE her blog as well and thank her for her overly generous endorsement of my wedding gown.

great post! What a small world, I met LL here through the ASG. Alas, I am an American Sewing Guild dropout. I marvel at her energy.

I like to read sewingontheedge by Barbara Emodi.

I enjoyed picking up more blogs here.

Just to clarify luckylibbet's comment, I am not clevergirl.org. That's Antoinette and I love her blog too.

This is the great thing about classes - share a passion with others who share the same passion. I'm still green I didn't get to be there!!!

PS - I hate the way Typepad puts a number here - hopefully they will get with the program and at least do a nickname...

Great post, Lindsay. It's wonderful meeting blogging sewists. I pickup blogs from comments and favorite links.

I hope all is well.
Happy Sewing!
