Sewing Friends, Sewing Projects, Sewing Nerds

Dinner with sewing sisters in NYC: l-r, Carolyn, Robin, Marji, Mardel, Claudine, me and Nancy K.

Wanna know a secret? Living close to New York City increases your chances of meeting sewing friends in person by about 100 percent. I feel so lucky to have met—in real life!—many sewing sisters over the past couple of years. This sounds like such a clichĂ©, but their friendships have enriched my life so much. Here's a big pre-Thanksgiving thanks to my real-life and virtual sewing friends. Love ya!

What I'm working on now: I'm making a Chanel-style jacket out of this metallic bouclé I bought at Mood late last spring. It's such an interesting fabric: gold metallic on one side and silver on the other, supposedly by Ralph Lauren. I'm using the gold side as the fashion fabric, but I didn't want to hide the silver side under a lining. So I'm letting it peek through under silk organza. I'll go into more details later about my interior treatment of this jacket.

Sewing Nerds Unite! I love this little vinyl label I bought on Etsy from Holly at Vinyl Wall Art. She adorns my plastic sewing machine cover and makes me smile every time I see her. Holly also sells other craft nerds, like Crochet Geek and Scrapbook Nerd.

Ah, Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday of the year. No worries about finding the perfect gift, just eating and lots of it. We're traveling all of ten minutes to my sister Anne's house and we'll be bringing the turkey and some side dishes. My niece is home for the first time since leaving for her freshman year at Elon University and we're all eager to see her. What are your plans for the holiday, dear U.S. readers? Whatever they may be, I hope you enjoy them! I'm taking the rest of the week off from blogging and will be back next week. See you then!

Happy Thanksgiving Lindsay to you and your family. I'm also staying in town and having thanksgiving with friends. Of course I have to make my turkey this weekend so my DH can have his turkey sandwiches watching the football games. Maybe this year I'll just make a turkey breast and get back to sewing. Which I haven't done in the last two years and hopefully will make one of those trips to the city with sewing friends! :O)

You are right NYC is probably the best place to meet sewing friends. I got to meet some great sewing friends at ASG in Chicago!
We are traveling to another state for Thanksgiving with hubby's family. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
I love that fabric. Have looked at it numerous times on EOS, but alas, I just don't need it. So, it'll be great to see your jacket. Living vicariously through you. Love your stated plans for construction.
Thanksgiving plans here: my son and new daughter-in-law are arriving tomorrow night, so there will be 4 of us. My son has already put in his order for exactly which stuffing he wants. It's the grocery store for me today.

Happy Thanksgiving! I had forgotten that you had an Elon connection. BTW, did your daughter decide on a school?

Happy Turkey Day! Sisters are wonderful - both sewing sisters and actual ones. I'll be spending the day at my baby sister's. It will be the first time she has hosted Thanksgiving for our family.

You're so lucky to have sewing friends close by. I don't know anyone who sews nearby. I barely even have a fabric store.

That two tone metallic fabric is bee-yoo-ti-ful. How about making an unlined jacket with the reverse side folding over on the lapels?

You are so right...it appears there are definite advantages to living in New York and I'd say having the opportunity to meet great people would be one....
Have a great Thanksgiving!

I may have to buy one of those Sewing Nerd covers -très très cute :)

LindsayT, it was just amazing to come into NYC and meet you, along with the other bloggers. I feel a part of a sewing sorority now!
I look forward to seeing what you do with that jacket; sounds yummy.
Happy Thanksgiving!

It was fabulous meeting you in NYC this past week, along with everyone else. It was such a fabulous week. You really inspired me when you took that class.

We are going to a neighbor's house for Thanksgiving this year, and apparently will not be having turkey either, but I'll get my bird and stuffing at Christmas. I'll just think of it as a menu-switch.

That jacket is going to be just lovely. The fabric is gorgeous.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

Well, you're right about the location. Nobody will be flying out to spend time in the central valley for sewing sake. Now, if you want to see the biggest trees in the world (and most beautiful in my opinion) and then do a little sewing with a friend, this would be the place!
