If It's Summer, I Must Be Wearing a Tunic and White Pants

Jackpot!! We finally had a perfect day here in the greater NYC area: It actually fell on the weekend, of all things; and DD and DS agreed to go to the beach with DH and me, permitting themselves to be seen in the company of their parents. People witnessed them actually speaking pleasantly to us and looking like they enjoyed our company. See, miracles can happen when the rains finally stop.

Yes, that's me making a dorky face and modeling the tunic I made on Friday night as I waited for DH and DS to get back from Denver. It's this Kwik-Sew pattern I've made before as a J.Crew knock-off. (KS pattern 3295, now out-of-print.) This time I added about three inches to the length and kept the sleeves long. The fabric is a cotton woven with lycra from the garment district. Pretty straightforward sewing exercise, though I did get out my French curve ruler and redraw the back neck facing so it was longer and less likely to flop out (hate when that happens).

And this tunic is positively the last summer item I make for myself this year. I have enough summer clothes, too many in fact. I still haven't worn the pencil skirt I made with Carolyn, Marji and Cidell! I may start on my fall biker jacket or sew some stuff for DD, who feels too many clothes is a glorious state of mind well worth achieving.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••

There's still time to enter my giveaway for a skein of white waxed thread. See this post for all the details. I'll be back on Thursday with another nifty giveaway from the garment district (hint: one of you hoped I'd be giving this away), so check back then!

I thought that was your Vogue-like arrogant model face :)
The tunic is very flattering on you. Hooray for beach weather at last!

Your photo could be a J Crew ad! Gorgeous summer photo, love the tunic (I haven't gotten around to making one yet, and I'm afraid summer will slip away before I do).

I am sooooo with your DD about the clothes...too many is a good thing! I like to have choices! *LOL*

I'm loving the fabric you picked for this top!

Looks glorious on the beach and your outfit is perfect. Hope the weather lasts! I wish that I could sew out of season garments! I have this "thing" that I can't get over--no cold weather clothes in summer. I have so many summer clothes and in desperate need for winter things, but I just can't do it! Therapy?

I've only worn my skirt for the day I took photos! The beach looks lovely.

It looks beautiful - the new top and the beach! I love the color and print - it looks and has the feel of something cooling and relaxing.

It has been so hot here that we have been hibernating in the house...I mean, who wants to go outside when it 107?

I thought just my oldest two were like that. LOL. Great pieces and I'm so in love with white bottoms this summer!

You look perfectly "beachy". Very nice. Humm-teenagers who hang with their parents? Where did they come from?

Love the fabric of your tunic and the dorky face! If you are finished with summer projects for yourself, does this mean you are ready to start projects for the fall?

That tunic is lovely! So are the beach pics. I am hoping to get away for a beach day myself very soon, I need a fix of sand, sun and good salty air! (Wish me luck that my teenager will be pleasant, too... I still shudder at memories of our last trip!)

Ohh I feel like swimming and enjoying the wind just looking at you. I like the relaxed look. The light blue one was also amazing simple and summer efficient relaxed chic (long adjective list here ;-). during those vacances, I hope your daughter wore the 2 great mini dress you made for her, the red one (so beautiful and simple) and the one with the 70's print that made her professor go bazouk... Those are so gorgeous on her. ahh, you are very inspiring.

What a great look! I went and sat by the river over the weekend, but it's certainly not the same as the beach!

Such a great top! I can't believe I need to start thinking about fall clothes, since it feels like summer has barely begun here.

Beach ... summer .... a distant memory for us at the moment - but you look great - and I like the dorky face!

My dds live in the NE and they are anxious for clear weather too. The tunic and white slacks look great. Enjoy the moments when your children enjoy your company. They will again when they have their own children.

That's NO dorky look! You look like a model right out of the Lands' End catalogs :) . Rockin' that outfit right on the beach!
