Jalie's "Scoopneck Tops" pattern, destined to be a TNT pattern for me.
[Apologies for copping PatternReview's format rather than writing something on my own, but it's Friday night and I'm zonked from the week.]Pattern Description: "Stylish banded scoopneck tops with optional hem band. With gathering (B) or gathered foldover (A) at center front." I made View B.
Were the instructions easy to follow? A beginner could tackle this pattern with no trouble. I tried to challenge the six years of French that's lying dormant in my brain by reading the French instructions, mais non, I was too lazy and reverted to the English.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The sizing, just like everyone says about Jalie! The fit was perfect. I'd just warn women with arms that aren't model-thin that the fit is very clingy here.
Fabric Used: A matte ITY jersey from Spandex House in NYC. Sometimes you can find some great prints hidden behind all the shiny spandex and jersey there. And the prices are great, so it's worth digging around. DD even asked if I had some leftover fabric to make her a top. (Unfortunately no, honey.) I don't usually like bold prints on me but this works, especially with dark jeans.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
Sewing Tip: Everything is beginner-easy but the neckband takes a little patience. I recommend attaching the neckband at the front gathers first, stretching the neckband slightly so the top hugs your chest here. Then stitch the neckband to the rest of the neckline, stretching it slightly at the back neck so it hugs you here too.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This pattern became an instant TNT for me. DD wants one too. In fact, I just cut out a solid version in a deep teal last night for some quick weekend sewing.

I love it! The print is gorgeous. Great job on the neck band and I really like the contrasting band.
Love the Pucci print and great idea on using stretch velvet for the contrast band. Now I know what to do with some of my long scraps.
Gorgeous print. I like the velvet band and thanks for the inspiration. I just bought the pattern from Needle Nook and it arrived yesterday.
I love it! The print is beautiful without being too loud, and the velvet band is such a cool touch.
Looks great, isn't it satisfying when you find a TNT pattern? Love the print, I can see it will look perfect with dark denim.
The velvet is a really nice touch!
Fantastic job. I love that pattern too. It's a real winner and your version is too!
Lindsay, I love it! Question: is the stretch velvet cut from fabric or is it pre-made trim? Vogue Fabrics has some stretch velvet ribbon that I swear I'm going to use one day on a top much like yours. Wait, I'm not cussing...I don't want to be compared to my foul-mouthed governor.
The stretch velvet neckband is prefect! Don't you just adore Jalie? Their styles are so perfect for TNT. I don't even look at Kwik Sew anymore. My 12 year old twins love Jalie as much as I do, so the broad multi-sizing really works.
Absolutely beautiful! I hope you don't mind if I shamelessly copy you.
What a cute top! And I think you have found what works for you and have started sewing in that direction!!!
Wow - that is REALLY cute! No wonder your daughter wants one- I want one too! Great idea with the velvet trim - I am so stealing that :)
Great top! I love the blue print. AND I love Spandex House! There are some real gems there. Thanks for posting your reviews on your blog. I will admit that I've been so busy the past two months that I just haven't checked out reviews and rely on blogs for the garment and info.
Very cute!!
Great top, cute!
Great top! I love the stretch velvet idea.
Gorgeous! I love this pattern!
Love it! The velvet neckband is a great little touch of luxe.
