Fabric Shopping in the Garment District: Pacific Trimming

Pacific Trimming, with its crowded aisles of bric-a-brac, reminds me of the five-and-dime stores of my childhood, where you could always find something to make you happy. I dare you to walk out of this store without buying anything.

[Note: Please visit my web site Shop the Garment District for the most up-to-date information about fabric and trim shopping in the Garment District.]

I've added Pacific Trimming to my list of trim stores I love. There's M&J Trimming when you need to gather ideas and materials to give your garments that RTW look; there's Daytona Braids & Trims for the basics at fantastic prices (like elastic, ribbon, lace and cording); and Pacific Trimming for everything else. Need hardware for that handbag you're making? Belt buckles for your safari jacket? Rings for your bikini? This is the place.

This post would go on and on if I included all the photos I took at Pacific Trimming. There's such a variety of stuff. Even if you don't have any trim or hardware on your shopping list, do yourself a favor and stop in here anyway just to experience that kid-in-a-candy-store feeling that you never get at JoAnn's or Hancock's.

Button, button, who's got the button? Pacific Trimming has loads of buttons.

This is the place for handbag hardware.

There's belt buckles galore.

Visit Pacific Trimming for sportswear zippers of all colors and sizes.

Need a chain for your Chanel jacket?

I found an entire aisle of cone thread. Sure beats the color selection at my local JoAnn's.

I love that picture of the button aisle! I can see spending an entire day just looking at the buttons!

I LOVE that store, it's one of my must-stops whenever I get to NY. Every time I've gone in with a shopping list, I've gotten everything I need. And then some.

I love this store and my stash could sure use another visit! Regarding your post from 8/1. I LOVE Inès de la Fressange. So chic, although I could never pull off some of her more punk looks. I keep returning to that pic since Sart put it on his blog.

I brought your map of store suggestions with me when I went to get some zippers for my bag. I ended up at Pacific Trimming. Three zippers for six bucks. Not bad.

Oooh, don't forget to mention that Pacific carries a great selection of Riri zippers - the highest fashion ones out there, IMO! And they will size them for you. I bought a couple of fantastic black/silver ones for my next Homage tote.

Wow! That handbag hardware is sucking me away to the Big Apple.

On my last trip there, they had double-sided velvet ribbon. I'm still sorry I didn't buy a couple yards of the eggplant color and design an outfit around it. And in their extra room, they have some french curves and drafting rulers that I hadn't seen before. This store needs a shopping day all to itself.

I have been here before, but we went in yesterday on PR day and they have expanded, at least since I was here last. They carry Riri zippers and will make it up for you in the size you want! I wanted one in 7" in gray and that is what he made for me. I like exposed zippers, but only if they are good quality. This is the best.

I love this store more than I can say! They also have clear plastic cami/bra straps, great for dancewear.
